![]() ![]() Manifold pressure can range from 58 kPa (8 psi) when pressures are low to more than 295 kPa (42.7 psi) when pressures are high, depending on the BARO. The highest manifold pressures occur when the turbocharger output is high. This occurs when the vehicle is operated at idle or when the ignition is ON while the engine is OFF. Under normal operation, the lowest pressure that can exist in the intake manifold is equal to the BARO. The ECM converts the signal voltage input to a pressure value. The MAP sensor provides a signal voltage to the ECM, relative to boost pressures, on the MAP sensor signal circuit. The engine control module (ECM) supplies a regulated 5 volts on the 5-volt reference circuit and a ground on a low reference circuit. The sensor translates these changes into electrical resistance. A diaphragm within the MAP pressure sensor is displaced by the pressure changes that occur from the varying load and operating conditions of the engine. Pressure in the intake manifold is affected by turbocharger output, engine speed, accelerator pedal input, ambient air temperature, and barometric pressure (BARO). The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures the pressure inside the intake manifold. I made it to the race and drove back home a couple days later and took it to the dealer and the only code it had was the p0234….nothing else. The H&S couldn't read the code but when it asked if i wanted to clear codes and i selected yes the CEL would go out. This happened 3 times before it threw a CEL. Id have to pull over and cycle the key to get everything back to normal. Kept an eye on the boost gauge when climbing hills and it seemed every time the truck needed to drop gears to maintain speed it would hit 34psi as usual and then it would flutter a bit to 30 and then peg the gauge to 40 again. I pulled over again, turned the truck off and started immediately and tried to pull onto highway again. Got back in and tried getting back on the highway and buried the boost gauge almost immediately. I pulled over checked the intercooler tubing/couplers and everything looked good. Once i crested and hit level ground the turbo was sitting around 34-36lbs and could barely maintain 60mph. Headed out to a hare scramble race with the kids, i noticed when coming up a small valley hill the boost gauge was pegged at 40psi, and it felt like it was labouring to keep the speed. I can only replicate the problem with the trailer behind the truck. Trucks not a daily driver and i don't ever recall seeing over 30psi without the trailer behind it. ![]() Normally the truck makes 34psi boost as a max and I usually only see that when towing. Trucks deleted, H&S tuned on stock power. So I have been experiencing the p0234 over boost code/issue.
